New Cpanel/WebMail Password Policy [It will ask to you for new password] - Applicable on all Linux Shared Hosting Servers

Dear Clients,

As part of our ongoing campaign against abuse and to ensure the security of our users web-hosting & email services, we are planning to impose a stricter password policy for email accounts hosted with us. As a result of this change, the system will no longer allow passwords of the type that could be deemed vulnerable to sabotage attempts. Email account passwords must fulfill the following criteria henceforth -

  • The password must contain at least 8 characters (and can be up to 32 characters long)
  • The password cannot contain elements of the email address in its exact form. For instance, if your email address were john@yourdomain.com, then your password can not contain the words john or yourdomain
  • The password must contain at least one letter (a-z in upper or lowercase), and at least one number (0-9) and at least one special character (~,!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*)

Starting today, as soon as you will open webmail / cpanel, it will ask you for new password.

Here is how you can reset the password:

  • Open the cpanel (https://yourdomain.com:2083) or your webmail (https://yourdomain.com/webmail)
  • Enter Your mail id/username and password
  • It will ask you to change the password

All email users whose passwords do not satisfy these criteria may also receive an advisory mail alerting them to update their password on or before July 20th, 2014. The mail will include the new password criteria. It will not include any links.

If the users do not change their password then the password will be reset and a new password will be sent to the alternate email address of the end user.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact our support team and we'd be happy to answer your queries.
