Server Migration - Windows 2003 Hosting Server, Mail Server, MSSQL 2000 Server and MSSQL 2005 Server [Updated]

Dear Clients,

In order to provide you with better performance & more stable servers we would be upgrading our servers to heavy duty servers with Intel Xeon E31230 CORE Processors & Dual Xeon E1230 Server 3.2 Ghz with HT & turboboost.

The migration details for the servers are given below:

Servers Impacted:
OWL.DNSRACKS.COM
WHALE.DNSRACKS.COM (SmarterMail Server)
SQL.DNSRACKS.COM
MSSQL.DNSRACKS.COM

Why the need of Migration?
As a part of our Quality assurance policy we regularly upgrade our infrastructure to meet the Industry standards & to protect the servers from any possible sign of crashes/downtimes. Since hard drive of the servers are mechanical devices hence we have a time frame of upgrading the hardware the moment it reaches its 3 years running phase. All of these servers have nearly completed their three years of operations and hence we feel its right time to move them to heavy duty servers which would not only improve the overall performance but also offer the latest hardware to meet the industry standards.

Migration Description:
During this time we will be migrating the data & sites to the new & powerful servers with the following configuration and details:

# OWL & WHALE Servers New Configuration

Intel Xeon E31230 3.20 Ghz Processors (R) series
8 GB ECC Ram
2 X 1 TB HDD
1 GBPS Port

Time: The Migration would start at Morning 8.30 AM GMT 5.30 + (IST) time and would be completed by evening 5:00 PM.

Migration Date: January 24, 2012 (Tuesday)

Maintenance Impact:
As a result of this move, you should expect the sites to be down during a significant portion of the above noted maintenance windows. Actual amounts of downtime will vary from site to site due to the large number of sites we would be migrating. We would be providing an exact time frame for the migration in next 24 - 72 hours, along with that you'll be required to change the IP's for your DNS Service as these would be changed as well. Please check the instruction set that would be followed in the next update.

# SQL & MSSQL Servers New Configuration

Dual Xeon E1230 Server 3.2 Ghz with HT & turboboost (Shows 8 x 2 Processing cores on the board )
16 to 32 GB ECC Ram
2 X 1 TB HDD

Migration Time:
The Migration would start at 06:00 PM GMT 5.30 + (IST) time and would be completed by 10:00 AM (January 21, 2012)

Maintenance Impact: As a result of this move, you should expect the sites to be down during a significant portion of the above noted maintenance windows. Actual amounts of downtime will vary from site to site due to the large number of databases we would be migrating

What you'll have to do:
If you are using 74.86.116.10 (For MSSQL 2005) or 74.86.117.114 (For MSSQL 2000) in your connection strings connecting your database then change it to respectively 173.236.21.186 Port: 1433 and 173.236.21.189 Port: 1533. if you are using SQL.DNSRACKS.COM or MSSQL.DNSRACKS.COM in your connection string instead of IP address then you won't have to make any changes and your sites should start working immediately.

Communications Plan:
Our helpdesk will be fully functional and staffed during the migrations. We will also be posting periodic updates in this announcement to keep you fully informed of the status of all migrations. Please do not use our emergency contact numbers during the migration, as this will just slow our work.

We appreciate your business and will do everything in our power to minimize the downtime while safely and securely moving servers.
